This time, we visited Torizen Foods Co., Ltd.'s Itoshima factory and met with Ebid and Hamid, who are part of the soup production team.

I also had the opportunity to interview him, so I'd like to introduce him to you.

──Please tell us why you wanted to work in Japan.

(Avid)

In my home country of Bangladesh, young people who want to work face a very limited number of job opportunities. Even after graduating from university, employment opportunities are limited and life is difficult. When I came to Japan as an international student in 2017, I had the opportunity to work part-time at a restaurant. It was a wonderful experience to be able to build good relationships with my coworkers. The work environment in Japan, where you can earn a solid income and value relationships with your coworkers, is not something that is taken for granted in my home country. After graduating from school in Japan, I wanted to continue working in Japan and enjoy my job.

──Why did you choose to work on a specific skills visa?

(Hamid)

I've always loved Japanese anime, and I wanted to work in Japan because the salaries there are higher than in my home country of Indonesia, and I can save money and send it back to my family. I first came to Japan as a technical intern trainee and learned rebar technology, but the technical internship was limited to a maximum of three years, and I had to return to my home country after completing it . Around that time, I learned that a new specific skills visa had been introduced , and because I was also interested in the food industry due to my past experience in agriculture, I decided to obtain the specific skills visa and find work in Japan.

──Please tell us what you enjoy most about your job.

(Avid)

I enjoy working in a factory, and it's great to be able to see and work with so many colleagues in a large factory. At first, there was a lot to remember and it was difficult, but now I'm used to the work and I'm being entrusted with more and more tasks, which has made my job even more enjoyable. Working every day sometimes brings up problems, but there are also moments when I feel a sense of accomplishment, thinking, "I managed to complete the day's work without any problems today!" I work on a soup production team, and my seniors are very kind, and we all get along well. The other day, when I didn't understand the contents of my health checkup documents, a Japanese senior kindly explained them to me and helped me out. I'm grateful to the people around me and I enjoy my work.

──How do you spend your days off?

(Avid)

I live alone, so I get lonely on my days off, and even on my days off I contact my coworkers (laughs). This week I've made plans to go to the beach with my seniors. It's a little far away, but we've all made plans to go by bicycle, and I'm really looking forward to it. I also like sports, so I play cricket with international students from nearby Kyushu University. I also enjoy interacting with Indian and Sri Lankan students.

(Hamid)

On the other hand, I'm the type of person who likes to relax at home on my days off. I spend my days lounging around or going shopping nearby. I really enjoy spending my days off relaxing!

──Please tell us your future goals!

(Avid)

I am currently in my third year as a Specified Skilled Worker No. 1, but I would like to obtain No. 2 status . I love Japan and would like to continue living here, and more than anything, I would like to continue working for this company , so I do not want to quit. However, No. 1 status only allows a maximum period of stay of five years. If I obtain No. 2 status, I will be able to bring my family from my home country with me and work permanently as long as I renew my visa. In order to live in Japan forever, I will work hard at my current job and aim to obtain No. 2 status!

Thank you so much, Ebid and Hamid, for sharing your valuable story! We look forward to your continued success! ♩

We also had the opportunity to interview the factory manager, who is their superior.
